Café La Pausa has a story to tell – born in 2004, we’ve been part of Copenhagen’s food scene for over 21 years. What started as a cozy café has now grown into a lively Italian restaurant with a young spirit and a taste that stands out in Denmark. Our food is rooted in true Italian tradition, but served with a playful twist that makes every visit feel special. You can drop by for à la carte dining, or gather your friends and take over the whole place for an event – we’re good at parties too. At La Pausa, dinner is never just dinner, it’s a little celebration.

At La Pausa, our kitchen is led by Jesús Salazar, a chef with over 10 years of dedication to Italian cuisine. His journey has taken him through some of the most respected restaurants in Milan, Como, and across Northern Italy, where he refined his craft in risotto, handmade pasta, and regional meat and fish dishes that define the gastronomic soul of Lombardy and beyond.
Chef Salazar’s expertise lies in the traditions of Northern Italian cooking — dishes that balance richness and elegance, rooted in recipes passed down through generations but elevated with his personal touch. From the saffron-golden risotto alla Milanese to slow-braised ossobuco, from delicate handmade pastas to rustic cuts of meat prepared with precision, his cooking carries the unmistakable depth of Northern Italy’s culinary heritage.
Having cooked for international guests on cruise lines, luxury restaurants, and prestigious kitchens in Italy, Chef Salazar brings to La Pausa a level of craftsmanship that is rarely found outside Italy itself.
